Tom Carr, Chairman of the Board

Tom Carr Chairman of the Board

Tom is a Math Professor at Southern Methodist University. He started rowing at White Rock in 2005. He has previously served as the SLB Boathouse Captain and President, and occasionally gets in the launch to coach. His favorite rowing season is the winter when the pelican’s make White Rock Lake their home. Whenever possible he takes his single to Masters Nationals and the Head of the Charles; when the current is just right some medals are won at the former but he has yet to crack the ranks of a guaranteed entry for the latter.

Sue Ellen Chambers President

Sue Ellen is a former professional dancer and co-owner of an industrial supply business until its sale in 2011. A White Rock area resident for many years, she began rowing in 2011, fell in love with the sport and has not stopped since. An active member of the competitive masters program and an assistant coach with the adaptive/veterans program, she is delighted to see how this sport has changed the lives of so many youth and adult rowers at White Rock. When the weather cooperates, you can almost always find her rowing at the lake.

Nan Miller Vice-President

In addition to coaching the Middle School crew, Nan is an independent businesswoman and longtime East Dallas resident.  Nan started rowing at White Rock in 2004 and has a seat on the Women's Competitive Race Team.  Happiest rowing moments are sharing the sunrise with 8 of her closest rowing buddies and getting the middle schoolers rowing together in a 4-person boat.

Sam Leake Treasurer

Sam became interested in rowing in 1996. Having bought a couple of Maas Aeros, he started car topping to White Rock. While coordinating and coaching cycling and triathlons at the Baylor/Tom Landry Center Sam tried to interest that organization in crew. In 2002 John Mullen suggested they start a rowing club and community outreach at White Rock Lake. John had started Dallas Rowing Club at Bachman. Together they made a deal with the Dallas Park Department for a long term lease on what we now call the Boomerang Boathouse, then in 2007-8 the Filter Building, and what I am most honored to have named for me, the Sam Leake Boathouse. Sam has served as President, Chairman of the Board, and now treasurer.

Lisa Henry Board Member

Lisa works as a Research Technician for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at UT Southwestern Medical Center and has lived in in the White Rock area most of her life. She began rowing in 2012 after taking a beginner’s rowing course and was soon competing at regattas. She takes her single out on the lake as much as possible to enjoy the wildlife and meditative atmosphere the outdoors brings.  Lisa is also an assistant coach for the adaptive rowing program.

George Bramblett Board Member

President and owner of Webster Street Inc. a residential and commercial contracting company, George joined the Board in 2008. Taught to row by Sam Leake and Ginger Twitchell, after an injury from an unrelated sport, George has enjoyed many hours on White Rock Lake in a single. As a general contractor, he facilitates the maintenance of the Filter Building and SLB Boathouse. His greatest joy is knowing the impact that our youth programs brings to the community.

Mike Wilson Board Member

Married, father of two, and licensed professional engineer.  Began rowing with the club in 2004 to get a full body workout and escape the pounding of triathlon/marathon training. Assisted with the interior build out, and construction/clean up efforts in both boathouses since joining the club in 2004.
